Cu Chi Tunnels
During Vietnam War, thousands of residence in the Vietnamese province of Cu Chi lived in an elaborate system of underground tunnels. The tunnel system had become legendary during the 1960’s in playing a vital role by allowing Viet Cong (communist guerillas) to control large rural areas. During its time, the tunnels not only served as a military strategy, but also the center of community life. Hidden beneath the destroyed village, children still go to underground schools, couples can get married in public spaces and lovers meet in private ones. Some wed and gave birth underground, but over thousands lost their lives here.
